Same Difference

FRIENDLY HEADS UP: The topic covered today can be a touchy one, if the idea/on going argument and debate about same-sex marriages and the topic overall are not up your alley, feel free to move along. 🙂

“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.”

-Genesis 1:27

There’s something I’ve come to notice that the world has constantly fought upon, spent wars over, riots and debates. It’s torn families apart, it’s started bloody wars, it’s ripped friend from friend, turned brother on brother, and it slips around like a shadow, it’s there, people see it, people comment on it, people step over it, but no matter how we look at it, it seems it is always there.

noun; the state of being equal, especially in status, rights, and opportunities.”
But the kind of equality I’m going over today isn’t the difference between colors, it’s more about rights, about beliefs, lifestyles, the way we are.
In worlds before and in lifetimes beyond, being different was both good and bad. When you look back to times like the Renaissance, people wanted to be different, they wanted change. When you look to periods like the Religious Wars or even now, where people are constantly at odds and ends over being different or fitting in, we’re always looking at it in different ways, because the thing is, no matter what you do, people will never see eye to eye, they will always look upon things in a different perspective.
But that doesn’t mean we can’t understand each other now, does it?

What is different? What is normal? Who decides? History? Tradition? We don’t know, we simply follow what we’ve been told all our lives. But the great thing is that nowadays, people are okay with being different, people see it as something new and they accept it with willing arms.
Perhaps before, and even still, people weren’t okay with the idea of liking someone the same as you. But why not? You fall in love or become friends with people because you have things in common, because you can relate, you get along, so why does it matter that the thing you have in common is gender? Why is the fact that someone likes someone of the same sex matter?
“It’s wrong,” they say, “It’s weird” they mutter.

You know what, it is different. But no one ever said different was bad.

I think it is perfectly okay to have same sex marriages.

Dear Future

“The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time.”

                                    -Abraham Lincoln

tumblr_miaq1nhrVs1qjbsm8o1_500.gif (500×375)

It’s kind of scary, isn’t it? The future.

It’s this massive, looming thing that hangs over our heads, wanders around in the back of our minds, slips through our thoughts and conversations, and leaves behind this sense of wonder, a sense of fear and awe for what we don’t know.

“It is not in the stars to hold our destinies, but ourselves.”

– Shakespeare

Some people look towards the future with bright, sparkling eyes. Dream and ideas, visions and thoughts waiting to be created, to be done, experienced. There are others who know exactly where they’re going, they can see the future ahead of them, they know where they are, who they are, and what they want to do. Some people fear the future, they’re afraid of what’s to come, what will happen. They dread the days looming before them.

And then, there are people like me, I suppose, who look towards the future with an air of curiosity.

To be honest, I don’t know what to expect of the future, I doubt anyone does. There’s so much that could happen, so much that could change, and the thing is, we’ll never know when or how they happen, or what will happen. And I’m okay with that.

“There is nothing like a dream to create the future.”

– Victor Hugo

Because the thing is, the future is something meant to be looked towards. We look back at the past, we look toward the future, but sometimes we forget that we’re standing here in the now. Sometimes we get distracted and we don’t know where we’re going or where we came from, we forget.

But that’s okay.

“The past is a ghost, the future a dream, and all we ever have is now.”

– Bill Cosby

I think the future is meant to be feared, to be adored, it’s the future. We’ll never know what’s going to happen, and that’s fine. Because what we forget really matters is living here in the now. Enjoying your life as it is and taking it in stride and never forgetting what it means to just be alive right now.

We don’t live to die, we die because we live.

“Yesterday’s the past, tomorrow’s the future. But today is a gift, that’s why it’s called the present.”

– Bil Keane

And yes, while that does mean we should always live life to the fullest, it doesn’t mean that we should be stupid. After all, there’s so much to live for. The future is scary, it hangs over us like a cloud, but not all clouds are bad, some bring rain, some bring shade, some bring dreams. It’s okay not to know what you want to do or where you want to go.

giphy.gif (400×225)

The future isn’t meant to be stressed over or worried about. It’s something to look towards and expect, because it comes to us everyday, one step at a time, and I think we can handle that.

“Dear Future,

I am looking forward to what you bring.”

– Past

Looks towards the future, remember the past, love the now, and I think you’ll be just fine.

Smiles Are Worth While

Something very precious to both ourselves and to this world is that little thing we often take for granted. We do it without realizing it, we think but we don’t realize that meaning behind it, the amazingness of the idea of what it is we are doing.

The action itself is universal all around the world no matter where you go. You don’t need to know a different language or how to say something right, all it takes is a little twitch of your muscles and bam.

What is this amazing, life changing thing?

Why, it’s a smile of course.

Smiling is such a huge part of our lives. It conveys messages, feelings, hidden thoughts and wishes, secrets, smiles express our greatest joys to our bravest triumphs. They help show our emotions and our feelings, and they us express ourselves in a way unlike any other.

Can you imagine laughter without a smile?

Scrubs_shrug_smile-230x173.gif (230×173)

It would be that bad.

The thing is, laughter is such an important part of our lives. I for one think it is extremely vital to the survival of our kind and of getting through life. Without a good laugh, I don’t know where half of us would be in life.

funny-gifs-pom-popom-popom.gif (399×299)

Smile are precious. Without them, we wouldn’t be able to express happiness or joy. Without smiles, the world would be this dark, dreary place full of frowns and scowls and glares and crying, and it doesn’t exactly sound like the kind of world we want to live in.

Smiles are a gift. All it takes is one little upturn of our lips and there they are, brighter and happier than anything you could have imagined. It’s because we can smile that we can laugh, and it’s because of those things that we can experience feelings like happiness and joy, and overall mirth.

So laugh a little! It’s okay. 🙂

The World is Beautiful

The world was beautiful, strange, and mysterious.”

To be honest, I’m not one to watch the news.

super-duper-anchorman.gif (400×216)

I like to understand what’s going on, what’s happening out there, but in case you haven’t noticed or are just quite blessed with coming across times when the news is at it’s best, the news is just horribly, truthfully, undeniably…

We Were Dreamers

“Then a dream once reminded him.”

There are a lot of things that make a great story.

The plot, the writing, grammar, imagery, creativity, all kinds of things, and each one has to carry their own weight. But there’s one more thing that belongs in nearly every story, there’s always one or more. Characters. And when you have your classic tale of good vs. bad, what is the story without the most important piece?

The villain. The antagonist.

The one who puts the good to your good guy and the nightmares and monsters under your bed. The bad guy in every story, movie, video game, whatever you’d like to name, is a key character. I for one, really, really appreciate the art of creating a great antagonist. They are the ones that make the hero who they are, the one that forces them to rise up to unbeatable lengths so that they can conquer, they make the hero a hero. GIF-FROLLO.gif (476×268)

Some of the baddest baddies out there for sure, and the list goes on and on and on because there are endless heroes and endless villains in this world. But what I really want people to understand and realize is the importance and the depth of these characters.

Holiday Spirit

“There’s happy feeling nothing in the world can buy, when you pass around the coffee and the pumpkin pie.”

Christmas. Hanukah. Kwanza. Universal words for different ways of celebration. But to be honest, to me, it doesn’t matter what you celebrate or believe in. The holiday season is the holiday season, and that means busting out the Christmas music, the lights, the food, the spirit.

I really, really, love Christmas. I love the season, the time of December in general. To me, December means so many things, with the warm, fluttering happiness that comes with Christmas, and the magical, awe inspiring, regretful new years. This season is a magical time.

It’s not just a holiday. It’s a spirit in itself, a time where people feel this warm, tight feeling in their chest you can’t take away. You smile till your cheeks hurt, you shake your head and laugh but you can’t help but get so into it because that’s what it does. The holiday spirit is a force to be reckoned with, warm, fierce, enchanting.

Don’t fight it. You can’t fight it. Just embrace it. It’ll greet you with warm hugs and coffee mugs, I promise. The holiday spirit is just this great feeling that I always hope everyone can enjoy, no matter what. It’s the amazing time to be with the ones you love, curled up together and laughing. It’s this time to embrace the coming of the end with a cheer and cookies waiting by the fire. Half the fun is getting into it and participating you know. Putting everything together and watching it all fall into place as your world just slows down for this one, warm moment.

It’s time like these that you’ll find that perfect picture that just captures that moment. The one you look back at and smile because it was so nice.

What’s the harm? Maybe a little damage to your wallets, sure, but its worth the years worth of memories you make looking back and smiling at it. The holiday season is opening its arms wide just for you, and all it asks for is a small smile and to simply embrace the whole thing in return.

Instead, you’ll find yourself in a moment, a gentle, sweeping, heartfelt moment that you will remember for the rest of your life.

So everyone, do yourselves a favor and please, please allow yourself to be drowned in the holiday spirit. Get into the season and take it with everything you have because that is when you will be the most happy.
